MAPA on the road
The Moving Academy for Performing Arts was founded in 1993 by Dutch mime artist and teacher Ide van Heiningen.
For years the academy was, as the name suggests, on the move: In a truck loaded with theatre equipment and a team of experts, MAPA traveled through the Netherlands and Central Eastern Europe. The mission was (and is) to educate and support artists to create, direct and perform their own work, even under the most challenging circumstances. We continue to collaborate with friends from all over the world and we actively support those affected by war and political challenges to continue their artistic growth.

In 2009 the artistic leadership was handed over to former MAPA student Virág Dezso; performer, teacher and maker of modern mime with a background in dance.
Since 2014 we have our own studio in Haarlem (NL), built by and for our community of artists. We established our ideal environment and facilities for training, research and creation.
Although we still like to move around, this homebase enables us to offer artists space and resources and to help them bring their ideas to life.
