LIGHTING BODIES
Theatrical Lighting for Physical Performances

MEMOROOM

Learn the technical and artistic fundamentals that will enable you to create effective and captivating stage light for physical performances.
This workshop explores the practical, technical and artistic aspects of (analogue) theatrical lighting relating to the performing body and the space around it. Participants are actively involved in setting up, handling and executing different lighting scenarios. Our hands-on approach allows you to physically try out and experience different possibilities and effects, under the helpful guidance of experts from the field.

Explore and deepen your physical performance skills by learning about masks and how they influence movement, gesture, and storytelling. The neutral mask brings the focus to our pure physical expression, making it a great tool to work on stage presence and physical acting skills.

Aleksandar Acev has a long trajectory as performer, maker and teacher and is an expert in physical theatre, body language and mask work. His approach opens up a dynamic environment for the exploration of physical expression and artistic discovery.

Discover beautiful and surprising ways of connecting with other bodies by lifting, supporting and being supported. This class is open to movers of any level or background. 

Marjolein Wagter is an expert in the field of circus and partner acrobatics and a seasoned performer, maker and teacher. She will explain the fundamentals of giving and receiving support and guides participants through a safe and playful exploration of the endless possibilities of partner work.

MUSICALITY OF MOVEMENT for Singers
with Charlotte Riedijk

MoM

Improve and expand body awareness, stage presence and performative skills by means of physical work. Open to voice students and professional singers.

Musicality of Movement (MoM) is developed by Virág Dezső based on corporeal mime and physical acting methods, geared towards musicians in general. In MoM for Singers, soprano, voice pedagogue and mime Charlotte Riedijk combines her skills in both disciplines.

About the teacher
Charlotte is a MAPA studio member, currently conducting artistic research in which she applies the MoM approach to classical voice education.

This workshop will touch upon the following aspects:
* Breath: every movement is carried/guided by the breath
* Neutrality: alignment in posture
* Articulation: in breath, body, decision & action
* Space: connection with space, body, others and audience
* Balance & focus, in body and in space
* Transformation, shift/switch
* Listening – Musicality
* Improvisation
* Working on repertoire with a pianist

Both days start with a physical warm-up & exercises. The last part of the afternoon will be used to work on repertoire with a pianist.

• Learn from a dedicated team of visual artists, projection specialists, and physical theatre experts: Machteld Aardse (Visual Artist), Jeroen Kriek (Theatre Director) and Ide van Heiningen (Mime Artist, Director & Educator).
• Experiment with various projection methods, including front/back projection, screens, and unconventional surfaces
• Develop a unique solo performance that seamlessly integrates your personal iconography with captivating stage design

Holistic Artistic Journey:

• Enjoy a fully immersive 3-week experience that allows for deep artistic exploration
• Connect with peers and colleagues in a supportive, creative environment
• Find space for reflection, creation, and professional growth

This intensive program explores the powerful intersection of iconography, visual arts, and physical theatre, guiding participants to create a personal solo performance using handmade slide projections. These analogue projections never fail to mesmerise and captivate the audience. The hands-on technique behind it gives makers a high level of autonomy and creative freedom.
